Welding QA/QC Lead | Major LNG Project | Mozambique | 28/28 Rotation

Join one of Africa's largest LNG developments and play a key leadership role in delivering world-class welding quality standards across a major EPC construction programme. This position will lead all welding QA/QC activities on a two-train LNG facility with a total capacity of 13 Mtpa, supporting a workforce expected to peak at approximately 15,000 personnel. 

The Role

As Welding QA/QC Lead, you will serve as the technical authority for welding quality activities across construction, fabrication, inspection, and NDT operations. Reporting directly to the QA/QC Manager, you will oversee contractor performance, ensure compliance with international codes and project standards, and drive quality excellence throughout project execution. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all welding QA/QC activities across the project. 
  • Monitor contractor and subcontractor welding performance, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions. 
  • Ensure compliance with ASME, AWS, and project-specific welding requirements. 
  • Review and approve WPS, PQR, WQR, ITPs, and welding quality documentation.
  • Oversee welder qualification and certification programmes. 
  • Manage NDT activities and ensure effective close-out of welding-related NCRs. 
  • Provide leadership to QA/QC inspection teams and support multidisciplinary project stakeholders. 
  • Champion a strong safety culture across all welding and fabrication activities. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, Welding Engineering, or equivalent. 
  • Minimum 15 years' experience within Welding QA/QC. 
  • Minimum 8 years in a Lead, Superintendent, Supervisory, or Management capacity within Oil & Gas projects.
  • Extensive experience on major LNG, EPC, Refining, Petrochemical, or Oil & Gas developments. 
  • Strong knowledge of ASME, AWS, WPS, PQR, WQR, and welder qualification requirements. 
  • Demonstrable experience managing NDT programmes and welding inspection teams. 
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent certification is essential.
