Mining Workforce Solutions in Papua New Guinea

Case Study

    Background

The Hidden Valley mine in Papua New Guinea regularly requires the support of experienced mining professionals, typically expatriates with over 10 years of experience, to support the mine's production and development of technical mining skills of PNG nationals.

    Challenges

Our client wanted a variety of mining professionals to fill these roles. Candidates required suitable technical experience, as well as people skills, leadership and training experience, and a suitable cultural awareness in order to engage and train the existing PNG workforce.

However, identifying qualified candidates who met the requirements and had a desire to work in remote and often difficult locations proved to be challenging.

Additionally, extensive mobilisation services would be required, including a detailed visa process and requirements.

    Airswift Solution

Airswift was selected to support the recruitment of technical mining professionals, as well as deliver full mobilisation services. Airswift's team in Brisbane successfully identified and interviewed candidates ready to work at the Hidden Valley mine, who also possessed the technical skill and mining requirements.

Airswift delivered the full scope of Global Mobility services, including:

    • Coordination of visas and interviews
    • Travel logistics and accommodation
    • Management of on-boarding
    • Payroll services

    Results

    • Airswift supplied over 20 contractors to the mine
    • Following our proven experience to source and supply technically skilled and experienced mining candidates, as well as manage the recruitment process, Airswift was re-engaged for another 12 months
