Asia continues to anchor the global energy supply chain, delivering some of the world’s most ambitious oil and gas, LNG, petrochemical, and renewable energy projects. From mega‑module fabrication to FPSO integration and offshore wind infrastructure, Asian yards offer unmatched scale, cost efficiency, and technical capability.

Bangladesh: Heavy fabrication for South Asian energy projects

Bangladesh is gradually building its presence in heavy fabrication, supported by growing coastal industrial zones and strategic government investment. Its fabrication market remains small but is gaining traction through shipbuilding, steel structures, and components for regional downstream projects.

Local yards are also moving toward higher‑value modular work as workforce capability improves. Proximity to key South Asian and Southeast Asian markets strengthens its long‑term potential. While still emerging, Bangladesh is positioning itself for increased participation in regional energy infrastructure.

Brunei: Offshore oil and gas fabrication

Brunei’s fabrication sector is closely tied to its offshore oil and gas heritage, led primarily by long‑standing partnerships with Brunei Shell Petroleum. Local yards handle jackets, topsides, and brownfield modifications, with consistent investments focused on safety and quality.

Though smaller in scale compared to regional giants, Brunei’s fabrication capability is reliable and strategically aligned with regional offshore developments.

China: Asia’s energy fabrication powerhouse (FPSO, LNG, offshore wind)

China remains Asia’s undisputed fabrication powerhouse, combining industrial scale, advanced modular construction, and world‑leading supply chain integration. Yards such as COOEC, COSCO, BOMESC, Yantai Raffles, and QMW deliver some of the world’s largest topsides, hulls, LNG modules, and offshore wind structures.

China is also accelerating its transition toward greener fabrication adopting low‑carbon steel, automation, and renewable-powered facilities and positioning itself as a leader in next‑generation energy infrastructure.

Projects

India: LNG, Offshore and clean energy fabrication hub

India’s fabrication capability driven by L&T and an expanding network of heavy-engineering facilities continues to scale rapidly. The country now supports major LNG, offshore, petrochemical, and clean‑energy projects while building engineering capacity for global export.

With strong government backing and “Make in India” incentives, India is emerging as a competitive fabrication hub across both traditional and renewable energy infrastructure.

Projects

Indonesia: LNG and offshore platform fabrication yards

Indonesia has evolved into a high-capacity fabrication hub supported by Batam and Karimun yards operated by McDermott, Saipem, and Seatrium.

With competitive labour, deepwater load-out facilities, and extensive yard space, Indonesia executes large topsides, jackets, LNG modules, and more recently, offshore wind assets. Its strategic location near Singapore enhances integration opportunities for regional project delivery.

Projects

Japan: Precision LNG and offshore fabrication

Japan’s fabrication market is known for precision engineering, quality assurance, and advanced heavy-industry capabilities. Major yards such as Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Hitachi Zosen, and Imabari Shipbuilding support LNG carrier construction, offshore components, and high-spec industrial modules.

While Japan often focuses on specialised engineering rather than high-volume fabrication, its role in supplying complex modules and marine structures remains influential.

Malaysia: Gas, CCS and offshore fabrication hub

Malaysia remains a key upstream fabrication center anchored by MMHE, Sapura Fabrication, OceanMight, Brooke Dockyard, and others. The industry is modernising through Petronas-backed yard upgrades and increasing local content requirements.

Malaysia’s fabrication output is closely connected with Singapore’s integration hubs, enabling efficient cross-border project delivery. With growing CCS and gas developments, Malaysia’s strategic relevance continues to strengthen.

The Philippines is an emerging fabrication location with strong shipbuilding heritage and growing modular construction capability. Yards in Subic and Cebu increasingly support steel fabrication, industrial modules, and offshore components.

With a large, cost‑competitive workforce and expanding manufacturing base, the country is positioning itself as a secondary fabrication destination for regional EPCs.

Selected 2026 activity

Singapore: FPSO conversion and offshore integration hub

Singapore is Asia’s premier FPSO conversion and deepwater integration hub. Seatrium’s Tuas and Jurong yards deliver high‑complexity FPSO, FLNG, and FPU integration work supported by world‑class engineering and stringent quality systems.

The city‑state also plays a critical role in regional project logistics, frequently receiving modules fabricated in Malaysia and Indonesia. Singapore continues to diversify into offshore wind substations and high‑voltage power systems.

Major 2026 projects

South Korea: High specification LNG and offshore fabrication leader

South Korea’s shipyards, including HHI, SHI, and Hanwha Ocean, rank among the most advanced fabrication centers globally. These digital mega‑yards deliver the world’s most complex LNG carriers, FPUs, FLNG units, and offshore platforms at industrial scale.

Their technical accuracy, automation systems, and engineering depth allow Korea to dominate high-spec offshore and LNG vessel construction.

Major 2026 projects

Taiwan: Offshore wind fabrication hub

Taiwan has become a fast‑growing offshore wind fabrication hub, supported by strong governmental renewable‑energy commitments. Local yards specialise in jacket foundations, transition pieces, and substation components, often in collaboration with international developers.

With major offshore wind leasing rounds underway, Taiwan is scaling rapidly to meet regional demand.

Selected 2026 activity

Thailand: Modular LNG and FPSO fabrication base

Thailand is well established in modular fabrication, delivering reliable, cost-effective modules for upstream, downstream, LNG, and renewable projects. Yards such as CUEL, BJCHI, STP&I, and Aibel Thailand support both regional and international developments.

Strong safety culture, repeatability, and modular efficiency make Thailand a dependable fabrication partner.

Major 2026 projects

Vietnam: Offshore gas and wind fabrication hub

Vietnam is an emerging fabrication location with a strong offshore oil and gas heritage and expanding modular fabrication capability. Yards around Vung Tau support jackets, offshore substations, process skids, and structural steel for domestic and regional energy developments.

While smaller in scale than most Asian countries, Vietnam is increasingly executing higher‑value scopes as technical standards and workforce capability improve. Offshore wind, offshore gas, and LNG‑to‑power projects are driving steady yard utilisation, positioning Vietnam as a cost‑competitive secondary fabrication hub within Southeast Asia.
